Slowing of myopia progression in children confirmed
Menicon Co, Ltd, a leading contact lens manufacturer headquartered in Nagoya, Japan, is pleased to announce the publication of the one-year results of the PROTECT (Progressive Myopia Treatment Evaluation Contact Lens Trial) study. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Menicon Bloom Day contact lens in the treatment of myopia in children.
The PROTECT study conducted by Visioneering Technologies, Inc., the manufacturer of the Menicon Bloom Day™ contact lens, shows promising results for the treatment of myopia in children and adolescents:
- Treatment effect on refractive error: 0.41 dpt compared to the control group.
- Treatment effect on axial length: 0.17 mm compared to the control group.
- Average change in axle length: 0.11 mm.
- Percentage of subjects without significant progression of myopia: 64%.
These results confirm previous findings analyzing six years of data* and another independent study** and underline the effectiveness of the Menicon Bloom Day lens as an effective treatment for slowing the progression of myopia in children.
