VIU starts the new year with a sustainable vision
The Swiss eyewear brand VIU will continue to focus on sustainable innovation in 2025 and consistently pursue its goal of becoming the most environmentally friendly choice in the optical industry.
At VIU, the focus is on gradually switching the entire acetate range to Eastman Acetate Renew, currently the most sustainable acetate in the eyewear industry. At the end of 2024, almost half of the collection was already made from this material - the transition to 100 % is to be completed by the end of 2025.
"Innovation is deep in our DNA. We are constantly looking for new solutions and materials - with the focus on being able to manufacture even more sustainable products," says Fabrice Aeberhard, co-founder and Creative Director of VIU. "Eastman Acetate Renew enables us to offer our customers high-quality eyewear with a significantly lower carbon footprint."
Why Eastman Acetate Renew?
Eastman Acetate Renew consists of 96 % sustainable components and sets new standards in the circularity of the eyewear industry. It is the first acetate in the world to be made from plastic waste and bio-based cellulose. Thanks to a revolutionary recycling technology, plastics that are difficult to recycle are transformed into a high-quality material that is functionally and qualitatively identical to traditional acetate - but with a carbon footprint that is up to 30 % lower.
A conscious start to the new year
To accelerate the transition and move even faster towards a more sustainable future, VIU is offering selected premium frames made from conventional acetate at reduced prices in January. The "Good Intention Offer" is valid from January 2 to February 1, 2025 in all VIU stores in the DACH region and online at shopviu.com.
